SCHOOLS OUT

Last December Detroit community site 'Detroiturbex' released now & then images discovered in the Lewis Cass Tech High School. Now demolished, the photos showcase the derelict school contrasted to its vibrant past of cheerleaders, basketball players and the string band. Probably one of the most amazing exhibits/truths of awareness I've seen. Really sad yet really amazing.

"So just what happened to Detroit? According to most who have studied the situation, the problem lies with an overly built infrastructure in a place which no longer has a population to support it. The population in the last 100 years saw the most extreme rise and fall of any US city, soaring from about 450,000 in 1910 to over 1.8 million in 1950, and falling back to less than half of that now. What we have is a city, complete with movie theatres, homes, stores and yes, schools, which no longer has a population which needs them"  - Benjamin Starr/ Visual News
