While browsing Urban Outfitters, I stumbled across some of the artists who have contributed to 'Class Of '11': An archive of submissions from graduates this summer. Safiya Yekwai from UCA Epsom's work is amazing. It's easy to call yourself a fashion student and after visiting LGFW and LFW the last few years you can see that Fashion in itself, like any conceptual art form is struggling to maintain a spark of fresh exposure to avoid the forever directive circulation and repetition of trends. However, Yekwai's portfolio is so strong and contemporary in it's own beautiful manner. The last two images above were based on Christianity and the iconic Virgin Mary's holy image. The work is playful, surreal and non stereotypical. This stylist's really cool.
