I met world renown photographer Andy Earl for an event I put on in March showcasing creative, community talent through technical photography exhibitions on Bournemouth Pier. Earl has photographed the biggest names in the history of show business and music. My favourite being, his collection of Johnny Cash B & W shots. He stated that Johnny wasn't used to doing set photo shoots and that he was used to being photographed singing to Folsom prison and Cocaine Blues, however the shots are outstanding. Taken a few years before Cash passed, the photo's capture his graceful age, a story through his eyes from his history to his intake on modern societies perception of folk and rockabilly music.
Earl stated that the commercial photography industry has declined in it's slide with recession, meaning it's not as elite as it was a several decades ago. Earl's hay day was the 90's, the stories he told me were unbelievable. The public figure strongly believes what the media can portray about celebrity status, I never did- until Earl said that when he shot Courtney Love for Rolling Stone magazine she was so ruined that he had to put make-up on her when she was passed out on the couch and out of 100 shots only 10 she had her eyes open.
Or maybe that's just Courtney Love.
